NHS Norwich CCG with the support of the Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board has recently carried out a survey looking at LGBT+ inclusion in the care home sector. We carried out the survey to see if there was need to develop a more proactive and inclusive approach to LGBT+ awareness training for care home staff.
The survey ran from April 2018 for a month and there were responses from 42 care organisations across Norfolk and Waveney.
Although a number of care homes stated they actively promote LGBT+ there is also an appetite within the responders for the development of both training and online resources.
As a result the CCG is working with the Norfolk LGBT+ Project to carry out further research within the community in the form of a survey (during Norwich PRIDE) and develop and deliver two initial training sessions to the care home sector.
This is expected to be concluded by November 2018 with a report being presented to the CCG Governing Body at its November meeting.
